Week 34 Weigh In

Week 34 Weigh In

This week’s weigh in report is going to be a little different. I’ll give you a little of the back story on my weigh in and post some pictures. No not pictures of me on the scale… trust me you don’t want to see that.

I was expecting Monday’s weigh in to be a repeat of last week’s weigh in because of a super fun weekend trip. Thursday morning I dropped the kids off at daycare, stocked the fridge and bid so long to the loving mother/wife routine for 4 days. My college roommate Nicole and I hopped in our cars and met in Savannah for a girls’ weekend that was 8 months in the making. I was extremely nervous that it would be 4 days of eating and drinking with reckless abandon.

Imagine my surprise when I showed up to find Nicole on a weight loss journey of her own. Nicole is doing a really successful program called Body by Vi. She drinks a protein shake for lunch and dinner, makes sure she takes her vitamins and then eats a regular dinner. She’s lost 14 lbs in 3 weeks (yes I am literally turning green with envy). We agreed right away that we would have fun, eat great food but support each other and not go bonkers.

We spent the next 4 days walking for hours on end exploring the city and enjoying great food. But the “enjoying great food” was way different this time than other times. Instead of waking up and starting the calorie fest in the morning we ate fruit and yogurt and had some water for breakfast. We had tasty but pretty light lunches. We didn’t really snack and when we did it was on apples. Dinners were delicious but not pig outs. We had an appetizer ONCE our entire trip and we split it. We had dessert ONCE our entire trip and we split it. Gain or loss I was really proud of our behavior.

Our biggest challenge started the minute we stood in line for a reservation to Paula Deen’s restaurant “Lady and Sons.” I mean it’s not a salad bar people, but we knew that going in. You would have thought we were training for the Olympics with all of our pre-meal preparations. We ate super light at breakfast and lunch and walked for like 4 hours straight. The restaurant smells divine like deep-fried butter sprinkled with salt and sugar… no joke. They offer a menu of Southern foods but for the real Paula lover they have a buffet sampling of all her most famous dishes. We both opted buffet (I know, I know - that was a dangerous move). We each only filled 3/4 of our plates. We took a tiny scoop of each indulgent, crazy good food and moved on. We split a piece of Paula’s pecan pie for dessert and as beautiful as it was we left a third of it on the plate. By the end of the meal we were both groaning and slightly sick. We made sure to take a long walk home to relieve some of the guilt and indigestion.

Our final night we decide to our room service since the food was being delivered to our hotel from a gourmet highly recommended restaurant next door. I don’t care how old you are, room service is so very cool. It makes you feel giddy and special. The food was great and not too over the top heavy.

Sunday I woke up sick as a dog. I told Nicole I thought I had a stomach bug. She disagrees she think the only stomach bug I had was an “excessive amount of cholesterol bug”. Sunday I laid low and barely ate all day because I felt absolutely disgusting. Seriously my husband is a saint for watching the kids, the dogs and keeping the house from burning down around them for 4 days only to welcome me home with loving arms and send me straight to bed where I could moan and complain in peace.

Monday I was ready. I was ready to gain weight. I was ready for heartbreak and tight pants. I was ready to own up to eating at restaurants for 4 days straight. But it turns out I got ready for nothing. I weighed in at 181.8  lbs down 4.6 lbs from last week. HOT DIGGITY DOG! This means our plan to vacation healthy worked, this means I won’t have to dig bigger pants out of the donation bag and most importantly this means I’ve passed the 30 lb mark and it’s video post time!!

Nicole did awesome on her weigh in this week as well. If you want to check out her awesome weight loss plan click to see her website here.

In 34 weeks I’ve lost 31.7 lbs. Video coming soon!

  1. Very impressive! Eating healthy while on vacation is not easy at all, but you were so fortunate to have your friend committed to doing the same. Eating healthy and/or exercising is always easier with a partner to keep us focused and honest. Keep up the great work!

(And walking around Savannah is always awesome!)
